Q&A with Fashion and Celebrity Make-Up Artist: Kecia Littman

Kecia Littman is a creator of beauty. For the past 19 years, Kecia's been
manifesting inner beauty into reality as a professional  Makeup Artist, drawing inspiration from her island home of Oahu. Kecia sat down with us to talk about her career, personal skin care routines, and the most important clean beauty swap you can make today!

  1. How did you get started in the makeup industry and how long have you been a makeup artist? I use to sing and dance when I was in high school and take photographs a hobby. I would apply makeup on my friends and then I would take their pictures. Through these creative outlets sparked a passion for makeup. I would have friends tell me that I should get into makeup and the more and more I heard it, the more I was attracted to it. It’s the universal law of attraction. I moved to LA to go to makeup school and instead of school I ended up working at MAC and the rest is history!

  2. You’re also a licensed esthetician. What motivated you to pursue that and how do you feel it’s helped your career? I wanted to pursue a license since it’s required by law in the state of Hawai’i. I resonated with Esthetics more than cosmetology and decided to focus on the health and wellness of skin. Having a license solidifies your trade. I’ve been able to help my clients get the best skin or makeup look with the knowledge and education I’ve received and it gives me peace of mind knowing that I am licensed.

  3. What does a day in the life of Kecia look like? On my days off I’m selfish. I give my mind and my body the time and activity it needs to rest and reset. Whether it’s refueling with clean food and fresh produce, working out with my favorite friends, or recharging my soul in the Hawaiian mineral rich ocean under the warmth of the solar sun… unless of course my husband or precious clients call. Then I’m completely selfless. It's a balance.

  4. What’s been one of your favorite jobs so far? The beauty of education. I love to teach makeup artistry to anyone who wants to gain a feeling of self confidence through the art of makeup.

  5. What does your personal skincare / makeup routine look like? During the day I start with Pa'akai cleanser, then serum and moisturizer and my MALU reef safe SPF. Nightly I use Pa'akai cleanser to remove makeup, a daily serum, hydration gel and moisturizer.

  6. What’s the best way to nourish your skin from the inside out? Probiotics daily, powder vitamin C and making sure I drink water throughout the day!

  7. At Honua, we’re passionate about creating clean and cruelty-free products. What do you think is the most important clean beauty swap to make? Being aware of the effects that sunscreen has on our coral reefs. I only use non-nano zinc oxide now and I’m happy Honua has Malu!

  8. What’s your favorite Honua product and why? Hawaiian beauty exfoliating water. I love using it as a skin prep before I apply makeup on my clients.

  9. Do you have any beauty hacks you can share with us?  For that go on the glow, I love receiving and giving oxygen facials to plump and hydrate the skin. It’s the non-surgical approach to botox.

  10. What are you excited about right now? What’s next for you? I’m excited that it’s the month of October and that means it’s time to create makeup looks for Halloween! I love the creativity that Halloween brings and this year I feel that the trend will be Euphoria makeup. A lot of glitter, cool shapes in eye designs and of course crystals! What’s next for me? That’s a great question! There’s something in the works. Once I get it out there Honua will be the first to find out!
